Today in American History – Thomas Edison

On November 21, 1877, Thomas Edison announced his invention of the first phonograph record  play and recorder in New Jersey.  While his was not the first invention to record sound, Edison’s phonograph was the first that also had the ability to play back the recorded sounds. He is pictured below in this 1870 photograph with his famous invention.
