Mildred Greenman Davis (1899-1987)

Mildred Greenman Davis was born on May 3, 1899 in Chicago, Cook County, Illinois. She is the third of four children to parents John Davis and May J Greenman.

In 1900, the family is living at a rented house located at 3523 S Seeley Avenue in the South Town Township of Chicago, Illinois.  Mildred is one year old.  (The house image seen below is a view of the present day address.)

In 1910, the family is living at 2044 Cullam Avenue in Chicago City, Illinois.  The family now owns their own home and Mildred is ten years old. (The house image seen below is a view of the present day address.)

In 1920, the family is living at 2611 W Sunnyside Avenue in Chicago, Illinois.  Mildred is 19 years old and lists her occupation as a clerk at an automotive supplies company. (The house image seen below is a view of the present day address.)

In 1924, Mildred married Elzie H. Smith in St Louis, Missouri.  They went on to have two children together:

  • Grace Smith (b. 1924)
  • William Elzie Smith (b. 1929)

In 1930, the family is living at 7317 Lohmeyer Ave in Maplewood City, Missouri near present day Ryan Hummert Memorial Park.  They were renting their own, paying $30 per month in rent.

In 1941, Mildred was the home care nurse for a patient named Dr. John Denis Eichelberger, a recently widowed chiropractor. Within a year, Mildred married John and they had a son together in 1942. They lived at the Eichelberger family home located at 121 Eiler, St Louis, Missouri.  The following year, John died leaving Mildred to raise their young son.

Mildred married a DeVos sometime after this and went by this name for the remainder of her life. She died on May 5, 1987 and was buried at Lakewood Park Cemetery in St Louis County, Missouri on May 7, 1987.
