Wade Ramsey Eakins (1964 – 1947)

Wade Ramsey Eakins was born on October 28, 1864 in Webster, Kentucky. His is the thirteenth of fourteen children born to parents Andrew Jackson Eakins and Nancy Wade Hicks.

By 1880, following the death of his father, Wade and his brother David are living with the Springfield family in Slaughterville, Webster, Kentucky, working on their farm. Sarah Springfield is Wade’s sister.  Wade is sixteen years old.

 

On July 30, 1892, Wade married Genoa Fannie Downey in Hopkins, Kentucky.

Together, they went on to have nine children together:

  • George H. Eakins (b. 1889 – Kentucky – d. 1962 – McClean County, Kentucky)
  • Lillian M. Eakins (b. 1893 – Kentucky – d. 1961)
  • Mamie Eakins (b. 1898 – Kentucky – d. 1977 – Evansville, Indiana)
  • Mallie Eakins (b. 1898 – Kentucky)
  • Nancy Wade Eakins (b. 1900 – Kentucky – d. 1997 – Portageville, Missouri)
  • Rufus J Eakins (b. 1903 – Kentucky – d. 1966 – Catron, Missouri)
  • Felix M. Eakins (b. 1905 – Kentucky – d. 1966)
  • Leslie James Eakins (b. 1908 – Kentucky – d. 1987 – Poplar Bluff, Missouri)

In 1900, the family is renting a house in Onton, Webster County, Kentucky.  Wade and one of his sons list their occupation as a farm laborer.

In 1910, the family owns their own farm in Summers, Muhlenberg County, Kentucky.  While Wade lists that he is still married and she doesn’t die until 1930, his wife is not on the census record.  Wade and some of his sons list their occupation as a farmers.

 

By 1920, the family has moved to Como, New Madrid County, Missouri.  Again, Wade’s wife is not listed on the census with the family.  They are renting a home and Wade lists his occupation as “cleaning”.

 

In 1930, Wade finally lists his marital status as widowed though we don’t know when she died exactly or where she had been for the previous twenty years.  Wade is living with his son Ben’s family in Brinkley, Arkansas.  Wade has retired by this time.

 

On May 16, 1947, Wade passed away while living with New Madrid County, Missouri.
