George Eakins (1783 – 1850)

George Eakins was born on January 15, 1783 in Rutherford County, North Carolina.  He was the sixth of seven children born to parents Elijah Joseph Eakins and Isabella Walkup.

In the 1800 census, George would not be listed by name but would be one of the children noted on the census under his father’s name.  The family was living on their plantation home in Morgan, Rutherford County, North Carolina. The family owned several slaves.

Elijah Joseph Eakins (1739 – 1825)

Elijah Joseph Eakins was born in 1739 in Tyrone County, Ireland.  He parents were Samuel Eakins and Mary Wilson. He went by the name Joseph throughout his life.

In 1773, Joseph emigrated through Charleston, South Carolina to the United States, along with his brother John.  Biographical sketches suggest that the brothers emigrated to avoid being taxed by the Catholics in Northern Ireland, suggesting that they were protestants. (more…)

Grant Washington White was born on October 1, 1891 in Monmouth Springs, Arkansas.  He was the only child born to parents Grant A White and Leana “Lela” Blackston.

Grant married Alice Mae McKee on August 13, 1914 at Williamsville, Wayne County, Missouri.
