Today in American history, on November 20, 1789, New Jersey ratified the United States Bill of Rights. It was the first state to ratify and paved the way for the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution.

Gettysburg Address
On this date in history, Abraham Lincoln gave what would be his most famous speech, by far. It would also wind up being one of the best known speeches in all of US history. Lincoln spoke at the dedication of the Soldiers’ National Cemetery in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, shortly after the Union victory in the Battle of Gettysburg. Lincoln knew full well the importance of this speech and the words that he would say. This is shown by his adamant insistence that he go even though his son, Tad was sick and his wife, Mary Todd, begged him to stay on the day of his departing. Instead, he boarded the train and delivered his famous speech.

Belleville Illinois – Founding Mothers
The city of Belleville, Illinois was founded in 1814. It is the county seat of St. Clair County and is the eighth most populated city in Illinois outside of the Chicago Metropolitan area. There have been many influential men and women who have contributed to the building and growth of this city. Here, we find many of them in photo’s from the Labor and History Museum and the Belleville Public Library. Those who are portrayed here are those found in photographs, hopefully allowing family tree researchers to connect faces to the names of their ancestors. As you trace your family tree, finding photographs can be very rewarding and really help you connect to your ancestors in your family tree.

The city of Belleville, Illinois was founded in 1814. It is the county seat of St. Clair County and is the eighth most populated city in Illinois outside of the Chicago Metropolitan area. There have been many influential men who have contributed to the building and growth of this city. Here, we find many of them in photo’s from the Labor and History Museum and the Belleville Public Library. Genealogy News – 800 Graves Discovered
Over 800 unmarked graves have recently been discovered in cemeteries in Thomasville, Georgia. Using cadaver dogs and ground penetrating radar, city officials and historians are working to put a name to every unmarked grave, many dating back to the 1700′s. (more…)
