On November 21, 1877, Thomas Edison announced his invention of the first phonograph record play and recorder in New Jersey. While his was not the first invention to record sound, Edison’s phonograph was the first that also had the ability to play back the recorded sounds. Today in American history, on November 20, 1789, New Jersey ratified the United States Bill of Rights. It was the first state to ratify and paved the way for the first ten amendments to the United States Constitution.
